1. Massager terms

When you read a massager's information page, you will see words like "Shiatsu" and "Infrared" and "Thumping" and "Rolling" and "Squeeze" and "Acupressure".
But what do they all mean? We'll try to clear a little of those questions up here.

1a. Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu is not a brand name, it's a style of massage from a Japanese word meaning "Finger Pressure".
In Japan, Shiatsu is an actual licensed medical therapy (but it's a massage!), and is explained as follows; "Shiatsu refers to the use of fingers and palm to apply pressure to particular areas of the body for the purpose of correcting imbalances, and for maintaining and promoting health"

Massagers that are called "Shiatsu Massagers" have either soft pointed rolling nubs or flat squeezing mechanisms that simulate a person's fingers or palms and treats areas of your body to a wonderful massage.

What's so great about Shiatsu massage?
Shiatsu therapists will tell you something along the lines of:
* You will feel deep muscle and tissue massage relaxation
* It helps with stress reduction / management
* It Releases toxins from the body
* You will see increased flexibility
* You will have improved blood circulation
* It reduces blood pressure
* It reduces mental anxieties (! Well, it sure is relaxing)
* It balances chi
* It just feels wonderful!

1b. Acupressure Massage

Acupressure massage is similar to Shiatsu massage because it uses points (or in a massager's case, "nubs") to stimulate and press certain acupressure points on your body. While we are said to have these points on different areas of our body, on our site our acupressure goods mainly focus on foot pressure points. Some of our acupressure products (sandals, slippers, acupressure walking paths) come with maps of your body's parts and the corresponding massage points on the bottom of your feet.

1c. Infrared Massagers (Infrared Heat)

Some of our massagers (the Speedy Thumper, Dolphin massager) come with infrared heat. Infrared heat is a form of something called "direct light conversion". The great thing about it is that it warms only the object it is focused on (in this case, the body part you're massaging) and doesn't raise surrounding air temperature. You can even use them in the summer without getting too hot and sweaty!
This type of energy is said to travel 2 to 3" deep into your body and to increase circulation and nourish damaged tissue.

1d. Squeeze Massage / Kneading Massage

A squeezing or kneading massager uses either air or a padded mechanism to simulate a person's hands (you guessed it!) kneading or squeezing you. This is great for circulation and is very relaxing rather than stimulating. The kneading and squeezing can often be beneficial for people suffering from edema or people who spend hours on their legs. (While technically not a massager, we also offer compression stockings for people on their feet a lot or traveling who have leg circulation problems.)

1e. Vibrating Massage

To state the obvious, a vibrating massager uses has a motor that, well, vibrates.
"But what are the benefits of vibration massage?" you might ask. Let us try to explain.
Vibration has the power to shake your tissue and muscles and give them a workout. Deep tissue massagers have a very strong motor and feel like they're shaking you to your very core. After it loosens you all up, you will feel "lighter" more relaxed, less stressed and generally pampered. Sounds like a lot for such a simple action, but it works, and feels really great unless you're extremely ticklish, in which case, you might want to stick to a kneading or thumping massager.
Slimming?! - A recent celebrity boom is to use very expensive vibration plates to slim and trim down.
(Here's an article about Madonna and others and their vibration exercising)>>
Vibrations are believed to make body muscles contract and relax mimicking actual exercise. While we always recommend that people do real actual exercise along with the vibration treatments, and aren't 100% sure there's really a way to slim without it, people love love love our massage slimming belts.

1f. Rolling Massage

Some of our massagers have the phrase "rolling massager" in their names or description. These massagers either simulate a long stroking action or are actually round massagers usually covered in fabric to put you feet on directly or to put under different parts of your body. They work using shiatsu or acupressure rather than by vibrating or thumping.

1g. Thumping Massage

Thumping massagers do just that. They tap-tap-tap or "thump" you as if a person was pounding you with a closed fist rather than vibrating or squeezing. Sounds scary, but if you've aver had a massage where a person "thumped" you, you know how good it can feel.

1h. Ultrasonic Massage / Ultrasound Massage

Ultrasonic Massage (Ultrasound Massage) is similar in ways to a vibrating massage but instead uses ultrasonic waves to produce the same result. The ultrasonic massagers need to be used with a conductive gel and are very powerful so they need to be used for only about 15 minutes a day. They are supposed to breakdown fat and tone and tighten as well. These aren't meant to be deep tissue, so you wouldn't use an ultrasonic massager on your feet when they were tired, but you would use it on your face and body in problem areas with your skin and maybe cellulite. Does it really "blast" cellulite? We aren't sure. We tend to think that if it did, there would be a famous man or woman out there richer than Bill gates. But it is still an amazing massage.

1i. TENS Massage

ultrasonic-face-body-slimming-massager Similar to the fingers of a massage therapist applying "Tui-Na" massage techniques on your muscles, these massagers produce kneading and tapping sensations for ultimate muscle relaxation. The modulated, bio-electrical currents produced are mild, but can prevent pain messages from being transmitted to the brain and raise the level of endorphins (natural pain killers produced by the brain).

2. Massagers by the area of your body you'd like to massage:

We are including the massager categories from our main site broken down by the body part you wish to buy a massager for. Some massagers fall into several categories because they provide a full massager for several different parts of your body.

2a. Face massagers

deluxe-eye-sinus-massager A variety of face massagers can be found here in our Face, Eye, & Sinus Massagers category. We have eye and sinus massagers, ultrasonic and led light massagers, and an inexpensive vibrating lotion application massager.

2b. Neck massagers / Shoulder massagers

tens-mouse-xp-massager So your neck is giving you problems? You are not alone. Our neck and shoulder muscles can become tight and stresses from driving and sitting in front of a computer all day. (We should know!).
You can use the rolling massagers and shiatsu pillow massagers directly under your neck, some of the hand-held massagers and the vibration neck massage cushion as well.

2c. Back massagers

Back massagers are one of our most popular categories second only to foot & leg massagers. You can find our back massaging recommendations in our Back Massagers category.

2d. Waist massagers

Your waist might not be a place you'd normally think would need a special massager, but they are amazingly popular right now. We have vibrating massage belts that are slimming, as well as being great relief for lower back & menstrual cramps (the heated massage belts are especially good for this!). Please have a look at our Waist belt massager category, and feel free to call in with questions.

2e. Leg massagers

Leg massagers come in two main styles. Massagers such as the Shiatsu Squeeze Massager which you sit down and put your legs in, and then our Reflex Roller Massager and Precision Fresh roller massager which you put under your legs and let roll with their shiatsu nubs. Our Deep Tissue vibration massager, though a foot massager, will relax your legs up to your thighs. Please have a look at our Leg Massager category.

2f. Feet massagers / Foot Massagers

Feet Massagers (Foot Massagers) are probably what most people think of when they think of a massage machine they'd like to buy. As corny as it sounds, our foot health is crucial to our overall body health. Please have a look at our Foot Massagers category.

3. Massagers by massager function:

We thought it might help you to know which of our massagers were what type of massager classification. We'll break it down for you.

4. Other Considerations

Your Health - If you have serious preexisting conditions, you are going to want to consult with a doctor or medical professional before you use a massager. Some massagers are great for people with many different conditions, but some conditions can be worsened as well.
We here at Massager Machines & More are not trained medical professionals, and can't answer questions about whether a certain massager will make things better or worse for you.

Massager Weight - You want the most powerful massager, but will you be able to hold it for extended periods of time or move it from room to room?
Our Shiatsu Squeeze Leg & Calf massager (one of our all-time best selling models) for example, weighs 25 lbs. While not an unreasonably heavy massager, if you have very limited upper body strength, it might be a little tough to move from room to room.
If you are thinking of ordering a hand-held massager, picture yourself holding it for a period of time behind your back to get a good massage. If you are very arthritic, it could be difficult for you, and you should choose the lightest model possible, or perhaps choose a rolling massager instead so you can position it behind your back rather than having to hold it for a lengthy period of time.

Strength - We understand that it's hard to choose a massager online. You probably look over the different massagers available and ask yourself: "How strong is it?" "How relaxing is it?" "What does it do?"
One of the best ways to find these things out if you still have questions is to call in and ask. Massager Machines & More staff uses and have used the many different massagers and can give you hints and helpful (we hope!) advice. Our toll-free number is: 1.800.438.8143. Our official phone hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PST.

5. Massager Pricing

Massagers vary in price from under $20 to over $300.
The basic rule with massagers as with everything else is, "You get what you pay for."
A 20.00$ Eye massager is going to be a lot less powerful and have far fewer functions than an 80.00$ Eye massager. We try to offer different classes of similar massagers to better provide you with exactly what you're looking for, but remember, don't expect a 30.00$ massage belt to function like a 125.00$ one either.

6. Shipping and Warranty Policies on Massagers

The cost to ship a massager under $100.00 is a flat $9.95*.
Massagers over $100.00 all come with free shipping.
Free shipping means free for you, but we still pay it.
If you are returning a massager due to dissatisfaction, within the first 30 days, you will be responsible for round trip shipping. Depending on where you live smaller massagers can cost around $10.00 to ship and larger ones up to and over $30.00.

Warranty policies vary in coverage and length of coverage and are always limited.
The better warranties offer up to five (3) years for parts and one (1) year for labor.
