About our Acupressure Walking Path:
It sounds a little unusual, but recent research
* has shown that the experience of walking on a river-like surface improves balance, mobility, and lowers blood pressure!
Using the same principles as acupressure/
reflexology therapy, the uneven, rounded surfaces of the stones press on the soles of the
feet deeply massaging various
reflexology points. The nerve endings at these points are connected to all of the major organs of the body via the nervous and lymphatic systems. The stimulation of these points has been a staple of Eastern medicine for centuries, and is now being embraced by Western health practitioners.
Cobblestone walking paths are common in places such as China, however the overall medical benefits of massaging the foot are just now beginning to be understood.
The reduction in blood pressure levels may be calm induced by the act of walking and balancing on the smooth massaging stones, or may due to specific pressure points of the foot being stimulated. In addition, the walk encourages and challenges use their vestibular system and focus which improves and maintains brain function.
Simply walking on the colorful and attractive "stone" path for 30 minutes a day, either back and forth or in place, may reduce and even alleviate many common health problems!
* As published on medicalnewstoday.com, a recently completed study at the Oregon Research Institute and funded by the National Institute on Aging confirmed earlier findings that walking a river stone or cobble stone mat surface resulted in significant reductions in blood pressure and improvements in balance and physical performance.
